Crystal Mode with no background?

It seems that switching to crystal mode disables the background - it becomes grey. Even if you select a background after switching to crystal mode, it switches back to grey after a while. I wonder if there is a way to enable background under crystal mode.

It is by design. It is made for artefacts minimization because of transparency in Aero.

Can someone from the team confirm that this is by design? If so, is there a way around it? I am not too sure why such decision was made.
 
Yes, this is by design. While in Coherence or Crystal mode you don't see (most of the time) your Windows desktop, so I believe it is not a problem that it is blank. It will be restored back when going into Windowed, Fullscreen or Modality modes. Making it blank when going into Coherence or Crystal is a feature that improves overall user experience. If you have problems with such behavior, please try to explain them.

I love the look of Aero with background especially when you pick a background that matches your OS X background. It's not about seeing the background, but seeing the background through the translucent windows. I don't see a huge degrade in performance so I would put forward a request to make this an optional setting if possible.

Also, in Crystal mode, I see the setting to allow the use of dock area (by unchecking "Do not use Dock area"). Is it possible to have a similar setting to enable the Taskbar area (Right now by default taskbar is not used, when I maximize my app)? Thanks guys.

I fully agree with Ken.

In addition I would also like to see Parallels getting the rendering of the Windows 7 guest OS window corners right. Parallels Desktop (or Areo?) renders little grey triangles next to the rounded window corners. The rendering works fine with Windows XP as guest OS.
