hey guys, i could really use some help. here's my problem(s)
i have a brand new macbook pro core 2 duo with 1gig of memory, installed a brand new version of parellels for intel-based macs. i went to ubuntu and downloaded the 6.06.1 i386 iso file. started up a new virtual machine in parellels, set up a linux 2.6 kernel, 256 ram, 8gig hdd, and set it up to boot from the image file. saved the configuration and hit the play button and then the screen went gray, my system froze and told me i had to restart my system by holding down the power button in a few different languages (is this the blue screen equivalent for macs? im new to os x). so i did that, started os x back up,started parellels again, loaded the configuration for the ubuntu vm i just made, and i was given a warning that this configuration file was already in use by another instance of parallels:
Configuration file /Users/ricky/Library/Parallels/lin26.3/lin26.3.pvs is already used by another instance of Parallels Desktop.
Do you want to override a lock and open file anyway (this action may be potentially dangerous since changes done by a concurrent user may be lost) ?
i said yes and used it and the same thing happened when i tried to start the vm again; screen was covered in a grey translucent thing and told me to restart my computer.
i don't know what im doing wrong!! i've googled how to do this and read a lot of threads and im pretty sure that im not screwing up anything obvious, but i lack a lot of os x experience. has anyone else ever gotten this warning? is this causing my ubuntu vm to crash when i try to 'play' it?? please help!
