Darwin ?

Hello,

My boss has a Mac Book Air and has asked me to look into a solution for quickly switching between Windows and Mac OS and found Parallels Desktop for Mac. He currently has Mac 10.8.2 (12160) Kernel Darwin 12.2.0. The requirements don't mention anything about Darwin and I can't find any mention on the laptop about Mountain Lion, snow Leopard or any of the other versions specified in the requirements. In case you can't tell, I don't know much about Macs. So is Darwin good to go for Parallels ?

Darwin is the name of the OS X Kernel, and no one really refers to it when mentioning compatibility, you probably got that because you ran "uname -a", but the OS name is OS X or Mac OS X.

To know which version the of the OS the Mac is running, click on the Apple logo on the top left corner of the screen and select 'About this Mac', since you mention 10.8.2, you probably already got that, that's the OS X version, 10.8.x IS Mountain Lion.
 
Ok thanks for that. I did check About this Mac and there was no mention of any lion or leopard.
So I guess i'll have to trust you on this one ;)

Also, if you look at the System Requirements of Parallels Desktop in:
http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/

You have:
"Software Requirements

Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 or later
Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or later"

It's all very self-explanatory.

I don't think your boss knows you're not putting much effort into researching this. ;)
