Dazed and Confused... BootCamp drive and Migration?

I am confused by the proper procedure. I asked on another thread about migrating from Virtual PC, but that will not work because the Intel Mac won't run the program. Doh! Here's my attempts to get this to work. I was told you can run the BootCamp from Parallels, but the procedure for set up is confusing. I partitioned a drive in BootCamp and it is empty. I don't have XP SP2 disks, only XP SP1 so I want to migrate my XP system from my PC Laptop. (I have 2 licenses for XP btw, one from VPC). I have installed Transporter on both machines, but I have not set up a Virtual Machine. I tried to set one up on the BootCamp drive but it said I don't have sufficient permissions, however I think the problem is that Windows is not installed yet on the drive...

So what I want to do is install Windows on the BootCamp partition and then BootCamp via Parallels, or run Windows on the BootCamp Drive using parallels. I am confused about the terminology and the proper order of the steps to take. Can I create a New Virtual Machine on the bootcamp drive with Parallels BEFORE WIN is installed, or can I / must I use transporter to install Windows on the BootC drive first ???

The manual and the links were not clear on the order of the process, or which option I should be using in Parallels to do this, run windows or Import or Start Using which looks for virtual machines...

Okay John, I admit I'm a newbie at this, but I guess I'm still confused. Are you saying that VM creates a separate virtual disk, like Virtual PC used to do, but not a regular drive, and I should set up a VM and basically have to set up a duplicate Windows drive in BootCamp, so that I have 2 windows systems on my computer?

If I need to do set up two, is there a way then to set up the VM and use the Migration transfer on my existing XP laptop to port it over to the VM? Or do I need to install it directly from the SP1 disks?

In either case, to set up the VM in Parallels, which option of the 3 in version 4 do I choose to start this procedure?

So far, I have a partition called BootCamp on 1 of my internal harddrives, but it is empty.... and has no system on it.

OR, if I use slipstream on my Compaq Win XP, can I just skip a few steps?
 
Oh, FORGET IT. I have Virtual PC but it has no boot disk. But I was able to call Microsoft at 800-360-7561, give my part number and they are sending me a bootable version of XP Pro which I intend to install directly onto Boot Camp.

Okay, if I do that, what option to I use to set up Parallels to use that OS and Drive?

BTW, I tried to set up a Virtual Machine and use transporter from my XP Laptop to my Mac, but each time I tried it, it canceled by itself after a short time saying on the mac it had completed, but on the Win the transporter agent said it had been canceled. What's up with that?
 
1. When you install Boot Camp , just start Parallels Desktop and create new Virtual machine using Custom scenarion
, select Boot Camp disk
2. It is hard to say what is happening during Transporter operation, but I suggest you to run Windows version of Transporter and run migration in place, e,g tun Transporter and agent on the PC, this will give more information f there are errors
 
Okay, thanks. I did that. I just want to say that the BootCamp instructions you have with one of the links you gave me, isn't really clear because I believe it doesn't share the interface with the new 4.0 version. Thanks, I've got everything working now and I appreciate it.
