I'm not sure where this came from, I guess it showed up after I installed Parallels. It says

    [C] Microsoft Windows XP

It also shows up in the Finder Applications window, under the Macintosh HD, with an eject button next to it.

Do I need this icon on my desktop or can I eject/delete it?

    Thanks,

Edit your virtual machine, click on shared folders and uncheck "All Windows Disks".

What you are seeing is your Windows VM's HD shared to your OS X desktop so that you can open / use Windows files in OS X.

So then, if I WANT to be able to open/use Windows files in OS X, I should just leave everything the way it is?

Which is fine, I like being able to cross-access stuff from one OS to the other.

That's the idea. That's your path back into the VM's HD while the VM is active.

You should note though that if you don't want this to appear on your desktop but want to keep the ability edit OS X's Finder's preferences. Click on the general tab and uncheck "connected servers" in the 'show these items on the Desktop' section. You will still be able to see the drive in the left hand pane of a finder window but it will no longer appear on the desktop.

That's also good to know. For now I don't mind having that particular icon on my desktop, at least I know where it is and it's handy to have it that close while I'm still making the transition from the Dark Side.

    Thanks,

Can i add another question to this thread?

How do you change the name of these icons on the MAC OSX? I have four VM HDD's and the names assigned by the VM is not that helpful to me.

    Thx
    John

I'm not sure if you can. I *believe* the names assocuated with the icons are the Windows drive letter followed by the VM name. Such as for me if I have two VM's running I end up with [C] XP - Production and [C] XP - Test Environment 1
