Do I need to save .dmg file for uninstall?

I have the trial version but will buy the real one today. Great product.

I notice that there is an UNINSTALL file in the .dmg but it does not let me drag it out to save it. How come?

What if I trash the dmg but if I want to install later I could download a dmg and uninstall? Hate to waste 40 mb of disk space for a .dmg file. (Or maybe Mac folks always keep their .dmg files? I'm new to Mac and I've deleted them after install. Maybe that is wrong?)

That shouldn't be happening. Where are you trying to place the uninstall file? I'm assuming that this is all being done from an account, disk or folder that you have write permissions for. (Is your account set up to be able to administer the Mac? Look in System Preferences > Accounts > Allow user to administer this computer.) Worst case, is it possible your disk image file is corrupted? If you re-download the .dmg file does it still happen?

Personally I keep a few of the ones that I'd rather not have to wait to re-download. I also keep a previous version or so of a software package around just in case there are bugs in the latest and I need to roll back. Also, if you decide not to upgrade your current version of the software, and you ever need to reinstall, you might not be able to get that older version from the vendor's website. You can always burn to CD or DVD if you don't want to waste the hard disk real estate. (And regular backups are also a good idea.)

Regarding uninstaller versions, I can't speak to whether a build 3036 uninstaller (for example) would uninstall properly the files from build 1970. Generally uninstallers on MacOS work by examining the contents of a "receipts" package file in /Library/Receipts (placed there by the installer), which tells the uninstaller what version, etc., it's working with. In poking a little bit into the guts of the uninstaller files for builds 1970 and 3036, they do differ. My advice would be that it's safest to use the uninstaller that came with the version you've installed, but I'd defer to the Parallels support team or software engineers to say definitively.
