.doc association problem

I am currently using Parallels 3.0 Build5160 with WinXP Pro SP2 on a Macbook Pro (10.5.60). I have been using Parallels without problem for a long time. Just recently, all of the .doc files on my download list (Mac side) have tiny Parallel icons. When I attempt to open it boots up Parallels. I only use Parallels and XP for a single software package for work. I don't even have MS office for Windows. I don't know how these files became associated with Parallels. It seems to affect only the downloaded files not those created and saved on MS word for Mac. Any ideas?

On the Mac side, right-click the file, select Open with... Other -> then point it to MS Word for Mac and select 'always open with' - this will reset the program association to what you want it to be.

Thank you for your response. I don't understand what is happening. All of the files in question are now back to normal without a Parallels association.
