    Hello Mike,

XP Mode is indeed a virtual machine, distributed by Microsoft in the form of VHD (Microsoft virtual disk). The VHD is licensed for use only on a computer running at least one of the following editions of Windows 7: Windows 7 Professional, Windows Ultimate or Windows Enterprise.

XP mode requires hardware virtualization feature to run. This CPU feature virtualization is not supported by Parallels Desktop, so XP mode will not run inside a virtual machine.

    Regards,
    Max

Have you tried running in 'compatibility mode', also running as administrator?
