Driving me nuts... please help!

I'm running parallels on a Macbook Pro. Works well. But I cannot select multiple files on the Windows side. On a standard PC, you can hold the ctrl button to select random icons (for example, to drag a bunch of disparate files into a folder simultaneously). But no dice in parallels. I have tried every possible combination of various buttons and the mouse, but to no avail. Plain and simple: I just want to do the equivalent of shift-click on the Mac side (which allows you to select multiple files at once) on the Windows side. Anyone? Thanks in advance.
 
Yes... I did try going in there, but nothing seems to apply to this specific function. Can you tell me what I would need to change in order to correct this? Thanks!
 
from to many years of running windows and keyboards with ctrl key same position, when started in Macs the Cmd was just uncomfortable to me. so i set the Mac and the VM to swap Ctrl/Cmd so i can use the ctrl key as command key in Mac and ctrl then works normal in Windows.

check the line "Mouse Right Click", there should be only Ctrl and Shift checked.

Another question. I keep getting constant alerts asking whether I want my USB external mouse connected to my virtual machine. When I hit yes, the mouse freezes and becomes non-functional. When I hit no, I can use the external mouse in XP but get constant alerts every couple of minutes and keep having to hit "no" numerous times. Is this something I can fix? Thanks for the help.
 
try reinstall parallels tools

don't use the Windows mouse drivers but those in the tools

I use MS Mice without problems
but never use the install cd

But how can I tell whether I'm using the Windows mouse driver vs. the Parallels Tools? I would love to be able to turn off the Windows mouse driver and just use parallels, but I'm not sure how. Thanks!

use Windows Control Panel "add / remove software" and unistall any mouse stuff you put in off a cd

then reinstalæl Paralles tools from the virtual floppy drive
