I've noticed after having a Windows XP VM open for a while, several opened apps get opened again creating a number of duplicate processes. For example, I will notice that I now have 3 Outlook processes and 3 Putty processes open and in the app bar. This doesn't happen for all applications and I haven't been able to figure out when exactly this happens. The OS is setup to automatically lock the screen after 15 minutes (I can't seem to be able to turn this off). Could this be something to do with coherence mode?
