Easy way to shrink VM Disk Size limit

Parallels needs a tool to resize the VM HDD. Currently it is possible to increase the size, however, if the virtual environment does not then need the extra space there is no elegant way to shrink the size of the VM HDD.
Running Win10 on Parallels v14 in OSX v10.13.6
Anticipated a lot of data would be needed in the Win environment so sized the VM HDD at 512Gb.
When attempting to shrink the size of this drive discovered there was no elegant process or tool to do so.
KB has some work arounds (poorly explained as never sure which environment to execute the steps in), but they involved downloading 3rd party software. Trying to keep this VM lean.
