Error: Processor not compatible installing Vista 64

When trying to install Vista x64 on a intel mac 2GHz Intel Core Duo, OS 10.4.11 using Parallels 4, I get a processor not compatible. I am currently getting Vista 32 bit but was under the impression the 64bit version would have worked. Am I missing something? Thanks

Guest Windows Vista Home, Business, Ultimate, Enterprise SP0, SP1 64-bit is supported.
Does your Mac support 64-bit applications? As far as I know not every dual-core macs have the 64-bit support, depends on the time you bought your Mac as well I suppose.

What does "About this Mac... More info..." says?

The initial MacBook Pro, those from 2006, and named "Core Duo" instead of "Core 2 Duo", that is those using "yonah" Intel processors cannot run 64 bits virtual machines because these Intel processors DO NOT have the 64 bits extensions. This is a limitation of the processor. I'm still running such a beast. And will replace my MacBook Pro when the next generation ("arrandale" based) will be there later this year or beginning of next.

Thanks all...makes sense. I'm on one of the original imacs with the intel processors. I would assume that it doesn't have the ability to run 64bit. I'm about to buy a new macbook and eventually another imac so I assume that the current chip will work. I have to review what one of the posts stated about a new chip. Hope I can find some ino on it. Again thanks to those that answered. I really appreciate it.
