you can just disable Shared profile (Shared Folders). To reinstall Parallels Tools might be a good idea though since it might be misconfigured currently.

If you have Parallels Desktop version 4.0 then you can disable Shared profile in Virtual machine -> Configure -> Shared profile. This would remove the message itself, but also would disable additional functionality of Parallels.
So, the other thing you may try is to reinstall Parallels Tools. I would suggest doing it the following way:
1. On Windows side: Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs and uninstall Parallels Tools.
2. After reboot, go to Parallels menu -> Virtual machine -> Install Parallels Tools.
The error itself means that Parallels can not share the access to the Mac's desktop, so the icons on Mac's desktop are not present on Windows desktop.
If the problem is with malfunctional Shared folders feature, then reinstall of Parallels Tools would help.
This is hardly a permissions issue but if the above would not help I would also suggest trying to repair disk permissions on the Mac side: Finder -> Applications -> Utilities -> Disk utility -> select Macintosh HD and hit "repair disk permissions".

Yes I have Parallels 4. This is a brand new iMac onto which I installed my old Win XP Pro. [As an aside I thought Parallels' documentation was poor as far as explaining the pluses and minuses of which install option to pick - express install, typical install - as well as which "file structure" options to select; my first attempt with "typical" failed, my second with "express" took root but then Parallels renamed Windows XP to Windows XP 1; I just went with the default selection on file structure]. For what it's worth, I noticed lots of forum traffic related to the error message "\\.psf\Home\Desktop is not accessible" - not just on the particular question I posed - so perhaps there's room for improvement in the product?
At any rate I appreciate your reply. Before seeing your post I did work out how to remove the error message by changing the shared profile setting. But as you note I'm concerned with associated loss of functionality. On multiple occasions I tried reinstalling parallel tools before I changed the shared profile setting. I'm pretty sure I did so as you propose, but can try again. Guess I'll see whether Parallels will automatically return the shared profile setting to the position that caused the error message in the first place? As for the idea of repairing disk permissions on the Mac side, I guess I can try that as well but it seems awfully early in my ownership to have that sort of issue!

This is getting rather annoying: Doing as you suggested (to the best of my ability) to reinstall Parallel Tools on the Windows side I've been rebuffed multiple times. I get an error message saying "failed to install Parallels Shared Folders driver" and the Parallel Tools install is rolled back and the cycle repeats itself. So as of now I'm worse off than before when I at least I had most of Parallel Tools in place...Arggh. Whether it's related or not I don't know, but suddenly on Windows startup I'm also getting nagged that Windows has detected a new PCI device for which the wizard can't locate a piece of software.
In this case it seems like an issue that has to be investigated more closely.

You are the third Parallels person to contact me on this matter, either in the forum or by email. I've gotten different advice from each of you. Frustrating! I ended up completely uninstalling Parallels 4 and reinstalling Windows XP Pro, which was quite a thrash and sadly I managed to lose some data in the process.
As I type this I'm re-updating all the various Windows files I had to go through the first time around, including SP2 and numerous upgrades/updates to MS Office, security updates, etc. Fingers crossed. One thing I've noticed is that in full screen coherence mode, the Windows task bar is invisible. I've checked the Windows task bar "properties" and it's not set to hidden and neither is the task bar set to hidden in Parallel Application. So I'm stumped.
