Hi there- I am new here, so please be gentle with me!

I am trying get Kubuntu installed (Ubuntu but with KDE pre-packaged) but I can't seem to get past the initial Kubuntu start-up screen. When trying to install Kubuntu, I choose 'Ubuntu' from the Paralells prompt window; I have been doing some investigating on other forums, and certainly on older versions of Parallels, you need to choose Solaris instead; might I have to do something similar?

Then, after assigning how much Ram etc I want to give Kubuntu, and locating my ISO file, I run it; I then click 'Start or Install Kubuntu' but I then get a screen which reads, 'No dmi bios year- acpi=force is required to enable ACPI.' After a few seconds, it reverts back to the main menu screen, but it hangs and I then can't go on to select any of the options.

I am completely new to Linux; what am I doing wrong? (I am using a MB Pro 2.4 if that helps)

Thanks for any help or advice in advance

    Kind Regards

    James

    Hello evolvewebsitedesign,

Could you send me the .pvs file which you'll find in Mac HD -> Documents -> Parallels?
Also please attach to your post a print screen with the error you get.

    Best regards,
    Xenos

evolvewebsitedesign, before installing Kubuntu please set Linux as OS Type and Ubuntu Linux as OS Version in Configuration Editor - Options. Then follow these instructions.

    Best regards,

I have been receiving the same error using version 2 and build 3214.

This happens with both the burnt disk and the iso from the download.
I know the iso and disk are fine as I used them to install Ubuntu 7 on a PC.

Also I have been able to install Ubuntu 6.04 successfully on my MacBook Pro.

    Any suggestions?
    tia

Cor, for Parallels Desktop version 2.5 you'd better install Kubuntu 7.04. After successful installation try updating to Kubuntu 7.10.

To install Kubuntu 7.04 on Parallels 2.5 you can use this helpful article by Ross McKillop.
