"error writing to sound device" in Ubuntu 6.10

I'm Having the same issue!
Nobody (in parallels) seems to take this serious.
I have a Sony Laptop with a built in usb webcam. I made it work in Linux, but parallels doesn't want to add it at all So No sound, no Mic, no Camera!
Running Workstation build 2112, Ubuntu 6.10 host, Windoze XP guest.
I also get the damn error
Unable to open virtual bridge. Is it installed and started ?
Unable to connect USB device to virtual machine!
Error writing to sound device! Loopback device will be used!
Please, we need some help here!

No I tried running parallels as root from a terminal. Now I was able to see the camera in windows. But again no sound, no virtual bridge, and now no network!!!!

I have experienced that Parallels acts very different when you run from a terminal as root. I would suggest that everyone run it that way and then troubleshoot from there.
With the sound...I don't mean to be simple but check if you are muted in Ubuntu. If my sound is muted I get the cannot write to sound device error.
Also make sure that the sound is pointed to /dev/dsp. That worked for me and I am running Ubuntu 6.10.
I am sorry Gabriel but I can't help with the Bridge Netowork issue. I have not had an issue yet with that. I have found that editing the config file directly is an easy way to get things to work that are for some reason turned off in the user interface.
Also I have talked to Parallels and they are having issues with the USB support. They are supposed to be fixing this ASAP.

Thanks!! I was having a lot of trouble connecting my bluetooth dongle to my WinXP guest in Edgy and running parallels as root made it work!
