I have a program running on remote machine that uses commands given by an ESC button. Unfortunately pressing the ESC button always makes the 2X client to exit fullscreen mode. Is there any way to bypass this?

Try to change the command button from Esc to any other keyboard key. This shall help you out to resolve the issue.
