    Hi there

I have noticed a big slowdown of my virtual machine XP. It seems the Parallels image file has now grown to 2.5 times the used size of the c drive, and I'm wondering if the two things are related.

I created the image from a physical machine with a 55gb hard drive using parallels transporter and set it up as an expanding disk. My understanding is that the image should be a bit bigger than the size of the used space, and that it grows as the data grows.

When I backed it up two weeks ago the image size was 44gb. It's now 49gb meaning that in two weeks it has gone up by 5gb... However, the c drive only contains 19.4gb of used space (data), only having gone up very a small amount, and definately not by 5gb:

    Parallels image size: 49gb
Windows c: drive: 55.8gb total, free space 36.4gb, used space 19.4gb.

    So, I'm wondering:
    - is the slowdown and the size of the image file are related?
    - why the image has got so big when the used space is so much smaller?
    - will using the Parallels Compressor bring the image size back down closer to 20gb?
    - are there any risks associated with this that I should know about?
    - can anyone make any other suggestions for things I should be doing?

    Thanks for any help.

    Richard
