Fedora Core 8 updates broke X / graphical login

After installing a bunch of updates to Fedore Core 8 and rebooting, I get continuous messages about x respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes.

I found a thread that suggests it's a display config problem. I'll poke around more as I get time.

I got around the problem by re-installing Fedora Core 8 from the iso, then applying all updates, then installing parallels tools. I changed the xorg.conf to manually set the screen resolution to 1280x1024.
