fedora install on xp

I guess I am a bit confused. I installed the demo of parallels on a windows xp laptop. Created the vm. Then I began the install of Fedora Core from cd. After selecting languages, it said it could not recognize any partitions and did I want to create or erase and create one for linux. The standard warning is if you erase and create then you loose all data which I took to mean I would loose my windows. Is that correct? Do I have to manually resize my Windows partition on my hard drive before I can use parallels? Didn't see anything about this in the manual.

Have you ever read about partitioning? ;-)

Having taken that shot, let me say this. When you install Linux, you are installing it into the virtual hard disk you created. That disk appears to the operating system to be brand new. No matter what OS was being installed, it would need to be partitioned.

So yes, you will loose all your windows. Nah, just jokin. You are only dealing with the virtual disk, which has nothing on it at this stage anyhow.

Do you know what partitions you will setup for Fedora?

Thanks and uhhh errrrr ok ok, yes have had read a bit about partitioning. ;)
Actually we run Linux at work so I am familiar with it. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to trash what I already had. Though I thought it should be a virtual disk, nothing in writing means you could get a nasty surprise.
