Garmin Etrex Venture GPS works !
Hello Forum,
I want to report that I succeeded to get a working setup for the Garmin Venture GPS.
This GPS has a supplied serial RS232 cable that don't fit into any IntelMac.
With the help of a cheap USB2-RS232 adapter (10 euro) I could couple the device to the cable and the computer.
The only problem was the mini CD with Windows drivers of the adapter that don't fit into a slot loading CD drive so I had to copy the drivers to a USB drive with the help of another computer with a CD tray.
After a few tries what driver for the USB2-RS232 adapter was needed I can now backup/restore/firmware update etc. to/from the Garmin device.
Parallels build 3188 is working great, this is my setup:
Garmin Venture <> supplied cable <> USB2-RS232 adapter <> MacBookPro <> Parallels <> Windows XP <> EasyGPS (free tool) and Garmin WebUpdater tool.
