Google Chrome - why does it make the VM take more CPU?

I've recently been trying Google Chrome in my XP VM, but I'm somewhat surprised to find that it consistently puts the VM's CPU usage (in OS X) up by 5-15%. It uses negligible PCU within the VM according to Task Manager, but it pushes Parallels CPU usage up considerably.

Any ideas why??

Google chrome requires more memory to operate smoothly, so increasing the memory of the virtual machine to an optimal value will be recommended.

To do this go to Configure options -> Memory -> Set it to 1024MB
Also set the CPU under hardware to 2 if you have a dual core processor.

Thanks for the reply, but that didn't really improve the situation. Without Chrome running, my VM runs at about 3-4% of CPU. With it running, this jumps to 20% or more consistently - even when Chrome is just sitting idle. This is with 1024mb of memory allocated on a 2.8ghz Macbook Pro.

As for giving 2 processors to Parallels, I thought this wasn't recommended on a dual core machine - surely it leaves nothing for OS X?
