In macOS, to type a hash we use alt-shift-3.
In parallels this does not work in Windows or Linux
In Windows you have to use ctrl-alt-3
In Linux, I have not yet found a key alternative.
Can we get some unity to this simple usage?

    Hi SeanC5,

On my keyboard layout, Alt + Shift + 3 in macOS issues this symbol "‹", while simple Shift + 3 issues the hash "#".
For Windows, you can set up a redirect in Parallels Desktop preferences, so Alt + Shift + 3 will issue Ctrl + Alt + 3. That way your macOS and Windows will be in sync.

With Linux, things always get interesting. Maybe this topic will be of help: https://superuser.com/questions/373026/how-to-input-hash-symbol-to-terminal
