I think we need a ittle info first... Are you talking about a Windows VM, Linux or what ?
If this is a Windows VM then read the sticky note at the very beginning of this forum. There is more to increasing the size then just bumping up the VM size. You need to take steps to make the guest OS aware that you've actually increased the size, typically by modifying the boot partition parameters.
