HELP! Cannot install Windows XP on VM

Bit poster
1) Installed Parallels Desktop
2) Created VM
3) Followed steps to "Installing Windows XP" found in the QUICK START GUIDE
4) Inserted Windows XP disc into drive
5) When I press "Power On" the screen goes black and my machine must be restarted.

I've tried the following:

Uninstalled and reinstalled Parallels
Deleted VM and recreated VM

All other software I've loaded onto my Mac works fine.

I am running a Mac based Intel...I've had it for 3 days...

running Mac OS X version 10.4.8
running Parallels 1848.2

Update to the latest build (1970) of Parallels. Launch Parallels and check for updates (in the Help menu).
