Help installing windows design packages on my imac via parallels 3.0??

Hi everyone,

I have just installed parallels 3.0 on my imac computer successfully and then added a copy of windows xp successfully too and now im able to open up a windows xp screen etc but i would really like to know how to install photoshop cs3, dreamweaver cs3 and fireworks cs3? Everytime i try to open these windows software design packages it asks me to choose the application to open them with and i havent got a clue which one to will successfully open and install these software packages and so any help would be most welcome??

" which leads me to think you have yet to install these applications into your WinXP vm. Make sure the CD/DVD drive is available to your XP, then insert the CD containing the Photoshop CS3 (or other) software and you should get typical Windows setup/install behavior.

Im trying to install the windows trial versions of Photoshop cs3, Dreamweaver cs3 and Fireworks cs3 and so these are programs that i have downloaded from the adobe.com website and so i do not have a cd rom with these software products on them.

So this is why im having problems because every time i try to open these window based software packages on my imac despite having parallels 3.0 installed im prompted to choose the application to open these software packages and im not sure which application to choose as im an absolute beginner with apple and have only just started using the computer today.

So have you got any ideas of how i can install these windows design software packages and which application i should choose or what i should do?

I would think you should move/drag/copy the downloaded Adobe files into the WinXP vm and only then try to launch them. They would likely be the Windows programs, and your Mac does not know how to 'install' a Windows 'exe file/program. The other apporach would be to download again directly from within Windows, using Internet Explorer or your browser of choice (mine is Firefox) and then the downloaded file should launch just fine in Windows. Remember, your're now driving a computer within a computer, but it is STILL a computer, albeit a virtual one.

Thanks for that. I will try dragging the program files into the windows xp window as you suggested and then try opening them and installing them from there.

Im not connected to the internet on the apple imac computer yet and so i cannot download them straight into the windows xp window.

Anyway i will try dragging and dropping as you suggested and i will let you know how i get on ok.

Hi there,

Just one more quick question. I have the white imac which i bought at the end of last year and so its not the very newest one and i just wanted to know if it comes with any software already installed which allows you to burn photos, music etc to cds/dvds?

As i have tried using the software that comes with windows and its rubbish! And i have used about six different cdr discs tonight trying to burn some photos to a cd!

Anyway help you can give me here will be gratefully received.

Take time to get to know your iMac. When Finder is displayed at the top left, click on 'help' and search for 'burn cd' as an example. Apple has loads of online help and tutorials. Another app you likely have is iDVD, it is fun to use too. Use the System Profiler to determine if your iMac has a 'combo' drive that reads CD/DVD and burns CD, or a 'superdrive' that will burn DVD as well CDs.

And those are wise words as i will get more out of it by getting familar with the imac myself and learning to do things by myself.

I have spent years using windows! lol And so everything on a mac seems difficult but in a short while i should be fine and i still have the benefit of having windows xp on there too.
