HELP: Windows in Parallels no longer has network access

I was having network trouble, called my ISP (Rogers high speed cable), seems they were having "DNS problems". Anyway, during the diagnosis they "reset my modem" or something, and I ended up getting new IP address and/or DNS. Now everything is fixed.

However, I'm running Windows in Parallels for the first time since and there is no network connectivity in Windows. Is there something I need to "reset" or reconfigure so Parallels will become aware of any changes?

Please help me fix this. I'm very stuck. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Ok, looks like I have network connectivity back when in Windows.

I realized that when diagnosing the issue with my ISP, I disconnected my wireless router and connected my iMac directly to the cable modem.

Now that I have the wireless router plugged into the cable modem and the iMac plugged into the router, everything is back to normal.

But this leads me to another question -- if I didn't have the wireless router at all, would I be able to have network access from within the Windows session?

Your ISP probably only gives out a single IP address per cable modem.

You could get connectivity by switching your VM to shared networking.

But as others have stated elsewhere, having a router (with a firewall) in place is pretty much a necessity in this modern world where an unprotected Windows PC is bound to be infected within a half hour.
