I've got a database on my Windows VM that I need to connect to from my Mac. However, I can't seem to ping the Windows VM using the IP address that comes up when I run ipconfig. I've tried playing with the Network Adapter settings and have settled with Shared Networking, but nothing seems to work. How do I get this to work?

Please let me know if I can provide more info. Thanks.

By default, Windows XP is not pingable. As far as I can remember, It may be enabled somewher in the Windows firewall configuration.

If you are using the Shared Networking, please make sure that IP-address is assigned by DHCP (is not configured to be static).

The IP-address of the VM can be obtained by starting cmd.exe (Start->Run->cmd.exe) and typing in the appeared windows command "ipconfig /all" (without quotes). It should be something like 10.211.55.x for Shared Networking.
