Hello Mikey,
You can use Parallels Desktop on your new hard drive without any problem.
Just install the Parallels Desktop and enter the activation key, you can start working on it.
But Parallels Desktop software can be used on one computer at a time only. As of now there is no option as "deactivation" of Parallels.

Is it the same for a new laptop? The old one will pass to someone else.
I should uninstall from the old one and install on the new one and activate with the same key.

joevt - I too am trying to migrate to a new computer - and keep my existing virtual machines.
can you clarify the steps? eg how do I uninstall parallels/where? I dont see an uninstaller program in my parallels folder.
When I tried to enter my existing license code for parallels (v4 by the way) on my new laptop it says its already in use (on my old laptop).

On the Parallels Desktop install disk image is an Uninstall app.

Did you stop running Parallels on your old laptop before trying to enter the licence on the new laptop? Try turning the old laptop off and restarting the new laptop, then enter the license code.
