Error 15106 occurs when updating payroll, so it is referred to as an update error. It is an indication that there are some spoiled sources within the system that are causing the error issue. When texts such as the update program cannot be opened or the update program is damaged, further operation is limited.

Steps To Fix Quickbooks Error 15106?

1- Uninstall the Antivirus Program and Rename the QB folder

    2- Disable User Account Control

    3- Logging in the System

4- Clean Install of Quickbooks in selective Startup

Check out and perform the steps given below.
Step 1: Firstly, Log in or sign in as a system administrator.
Step 2: Verify if you have any antivirus software running on the computer, for example, Webroot Spyware Sweeper.
    • Now hit enter by following the Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys on the keyboard of your computer.
    • Search for the Spy Sweeper.exe file on the Processes tab. If didn't see any such option, go with step 4.
    • Choose the Spy Sweeper.exe file and then End Process.
    Step 3: Go to the C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks(year)\Components.
Step 4: Change the name of the downloadqbxx folder to downloadqbxx.old.
Step 5: Reset the QuickBooks Desktop update.
Step 6: If the issue persists even and you are unable to update QuickBooks, disable your antivirus software.
Step 7: Next, disable Windows Defender on your computer.
Step 8: If you are a Windows 8 user - turn off the User Account Control (UAC) temporarily. Here are the steps to change UAC settings in Windows 10, 8.1, 8, and 7):
    1. Open Run box by pressing Windows+R keys.
    2. Type Control Panel in the open box and select OK.
    3. Select User Accounts and then select User Accounts (Classic View).
    4. Select Change user account control settings. (Note: Select Yes to continue if you receive a prompt).
    5. Move the slider and set to Never Notify.
    6. Select OK to turn UAC OFF.
    7. If you have to turn UAC notifications on, select OK. (Note: Select Yes to continue if you receive a prompt).
    8. Restart the computer.
Step 9: If you are unable to download the updates - perform a clean install in the Selective Startup.

    Regards,
    Peter

I keep getting error 15106 whenever I try to update my QuickBooks desktop. I have not been able to update since 2-12-2020. Today I went through all of the steps except reinstalling (and that's because I have multiple company files that I would need to backup and then open again after an uninstall/reinstall).
I have disabled my antivirus software. I also disabled the Windows Defender firewall. I also went into Components in the Intuit program file and renamed DownloadQB28.old.
I am still getting the error message "[Error 15106] The update program can not be opened."

    Any other ideas?
