How to get my unbacked-up old parallels VMs back??

Hey everyone,

OK, so let's say that I've installed Parallels 4.0. I had Parallels 3.x before, which worked fine. 4.0 however, leaves me with 2 VMs (out of 3) that I can't use.

So... I actually converted my VMs and didn't back up before. Honestly, i didn't think it was necessary, I trusted in Parallels because they'd done a good job before. Oh well... guess that'll teach me.

Anyhow, apart from the stupidity of my decision... the next point is... WHAT THE HELL DO I DO NOW? How do I get my old VMs back? Can I reimport into Parallels 3? Some guy here said that VMware or something like that... was able to import Parallels images and... use them! Amazing! Is this really gonna work?

Do I have to download, install and give VMWare a go? Or is it unlikely to work?

I am really fed up of spending so much time trying to get these things working :(

I only ask this because no one replied on my thread where I said it broke Vista and Linux :( So I have to consider the possibility that no one will help me get these working in parallels 4.0
 
Are you saying that you have never backed up your Mac? Time Machine or any of the cloners like Carbon Copy Cloner would have saved your VMs.
 
What kind of issues do you have with your windows and your Linux. It should be possible to repair them.

Have you tried booting windows in safe mode, removing all hardware devices and letting windows rediscover everything?

As for Linux, you SHOULD be able to boot in terminal mode and from there remove the old parallel tools, then reinstall the new ones.
