Huge problems after installing Parallels on top of Bootcamp

I just installed parallels on top of my bootcamp partition.

The VM locked up completely when it tried to access a shared folder on my Mac and the only way to get control back was to force quit the application.

I was able to open it again once after restarting, but now it does not work and I get the following error message >
"Parallels Desktop is unable to operate since it cannot communicate with one of it's drivers. Try to restart the application to overcome this issue. If restart doesn't help, re-install Parallels Desktop. Note that Parallels drivers require a short time to be properly started and initialized. So you may need to wait a minute before trying to launch the application."

On a side note, it seems to have stuffed with my Bootcamp install. When I try and boot directly into Windows a screen comes up asking if I want to choose between Parallels or Windows XP - if you don't quickly click down and select Windows XP you get the following error message >
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<windows root>\system32\hal.dll
Please re-install a copy of the above file."


I want to uninstall Parallels and PERHAPS try and install it again, but if I try and uninstall this junk is it going to stuff up my Bootcamp install which was working perfectly without any issues?
 
Thanks for your reply. Did you read the whole post? I can get my bootcamp windows running as long as I click on the correct option on startup as above (this never happened until Parallels screwed with it)

Isn't the fix you suggested going to be making changes directly to the Windows installed on Bootcamp? That's exactly what I want to avoid. Someone just set this up for me and it's working perfectly, it's just Parallels that needs to be removed without interfering with this in anyway. I am hoping this will get rid of any changes it made and once everything is back to normal I can attempt to install Parallels again...
 
Yes, I have read your post. Repair does not do any major changes. It only replaces corrupted and missing files.

As far as I understood, you cannot start Parallels Desktop. Am I right?
If so you can try to reinstall Parallels. Parallels Desktop for Mac distribution provides an Uninstaller application for easy product uninstallation.
Please note, that Parallels Uninstaller application does not remove Virtual Machines from your Macintosh HD.
If you have a Parallels Desktop for Mac CD, please insert it into your Mac CD/DVD drive. The Uninstaller application is there.
If you have previously downloaded Parallels Desktop for Mac from the web site as a .dmg package, please double-click it. Once the .dmg package is mounted, you will see an Uninstaller application there.
Launch the Uninstaller application and follow the on-screen instructions.

Then you should install Parallels, open you existing bootcamp VM (but do not start it). Then in 'Configuration Editor' of your VM ('Edit' -> 'Virtual machine') click 'Hard Disk' tab, then click 'Advanced' tab and in the 'Cleanup Boot Camp Partition' area click the 'Clear' button.
