If I quit parallels without shutting down VMs?

Can I just quit parallels and not shutdown my VMs so I can come back to them later?

What I do at the moment is, shut down all VMs, and turn off the computer... can I just turn off computer and when I restart, Parallels will resume the VMs from where they were (don't have to start them up again)...?

If that's possible, any negative side effects to doing this?

Use Suspend/Resume option. It provides the functionality you need, you can restart/shutdown/put it to sleep.
