    Hi everybody,

I would like to understand why the image file corresponding to the disk of my VM is so much larger than the effective used space.

OS installed: Windows XP on C.
Disks created with Parallels build 4560, upgraded up to build 5144.
    C disk total:78.1GB free:49.1GB used:29GB image file:53.6 GB.
    E disk total:70.9GB free:63.1GB used:7.8GB image file:19.1 GB.

Is that normal? It looks as a, perhaps not serious, bug to me...
Does anybody know anything about that?
Thanks in advance for any information.

    Best regards,

    Luca severini

    hi,
yes it's normal if your virtual disks of Expanding type. You can use Compact functionality from VM configuration dialog (Advanced tab of virtual hard disk properties) to reduce physical image size.

    Hi Sandro,

Do you know is optimizing the disk with Norton before to compact its image file can shorten the amount of needed time?

    Luca,
i saw already this your question at another thread. Really can't to say nothing about it. You can create some test VM where you'll be able to check it in view of do not busy your working VM as you said it's needing you constatntly.
