Installing MS Office 2003

Hi all,

I've just installed Vista on my MacBook. If I want to install a program to the virtual machine (say MS Office 2003), how do I go about it?

I realise that this is a simplistic question but I can't find where in the manual it actually tells you how to do this - if someone could refer me to the spot in the Parallels User Guides I imagine that would be sufficient.

Just to elaborate a little. I'll be installing it from a CD - so I guess I need to enable the Virtual CD drive to recognise the real CD drive on my computer...is that right?
 
Hello Jamie,

You can use either CD or a disk image to install a program on the virtual machine.

To install from CD: launch Parallels, start Windows and put the CD into your Mac. If it will not get connected to the Guest OS right after that, go to Parallels Desktop menu bar -> Devices and click CD/DVD-Rom. Start the installation process.

To make an ISO image of the CD-ROM, do the following:

1. In the Finder, browse to Macintosh HD - Applications - Utilities. Choose Disk Utility.
2. Insert the source CD-ROM, the image of which you want to create, into the CD/DVD-ROM drive of Macintosh computer.
3. Select the CD/DVD-ROM drive from the Disk Utility device list.
4. Click the New Image button on the top of the Disk Utility window.
5. Specify the name and location for the image or leave the default settings.
6. Set Image Format to read-only.
7. Click Save and wait till the image creation process is complete.

Now you can connect this image to the virtual machine’s CD/DVD-ROM drive:

1. Launch Parallels Desktop.
2. Click the CD/DVD-ROM icon in the main Configuration window to open the CD/DVD-ROM drive’s settings.
3. Select the Use image file option and click Browse to locate the ISO image file.

You can use a successfully created image file as a bootable media instead of a real CD.
