Hi, I just installed Parallels Desktop 3 and I'm quite new with this things so i hope you could help me out. I was trying to install Windws XP on my new MacBook but it didn't work. I created an image of the installation disk I already used before so there's nothing wrong with the .dmg file. I followed the simple steps for creating a new virtual machine and at the end when the installation was about to begin i recive this message: Boot from hard drive... FAILED. Boot from CD/DVD-ROM drive... FAILED. Boot from floppy drive... Non-System or disk error Repace and press any key when ready It didn't want to connect to my default DVD drive eather that's why i made an image of the Windows XP CD. Could it be the problem that my version of Windows is XP Professional only, without any service pack? Does anyone have an idea of what went wrong? What should I do? Thanks, dolce.
I didn't have a problem installing XP Pro on Parallels. Have you tried using the original installation CD?
How are you connecting to the .dmg file? That may be the issue. Did you try other install from iso file? kat
i converted dmg to iso and it worked! thanks! one question - how do i switch between mac os X and XP without closing the full screen mode? is there a keyboard combination?
Are you asking about coherence? With this you can integrate applications in the guest os(XP for you) with the Mac OS X. kat
no no, not the coherence... the shortcut to switch between OSX and XP and having that cube effect. which buttons do i have to press?
You can animate the vm with a cube effect from the Animation Tab under Preferences. This is located under the Parallels Desktop (upper right next to your apple when you start a machine). This is just one of the animated effects you can chose. kat
I alway turn my Xp off from its start menu. Before I exit parallels. You can quit any program by hitting the apple key next to the space bar and the Q. That will end most programs. kat
aha aha, but is it possible to switch between osx and xp like they did in this movie http://youtube.com/watch?v=O9IdvUPyQy0 what do i have to press to get that? XD
Aw, c'mon now! Give me the goods. PLEASE! I've looked through the manual but it doesn't mention what keystrokes to use. For the meantime I'm using VirtueDesktop (or is it VirtualDesktop?).
