internet works wirelessly, but not with ethernet

I have Mac os X 10.4.8 and I have Windows XP through parallels build 1970. I previously had 1966 and with both builds I never had a problem connecting wirelessly. It just configured everything for me. Today I plugged in straight into my cable modem because I wanted to download some large files quicker and my internet doesn't work. It says I have limited or no connectivity(Windows). Internet works fine on the mac. Is there a setting I'm supposed to change to be able to use the internet this way?

OSX typically configures both the ethernet port and if availabe the airport.

In Parallels selecting DEFAULT will pick the Airport. In the Parallel's Console, change the "default" or en1 and select "en0".

Hopefully, that will do it.

When not using wireless AP/router you're no longer behind a NAT. Your provider most probably limits you to a single IP address (which is taken by Mac). Try using Shared Network mode instead of Bridged.

And if that doesn't work, think for a minute whether the wireless link is really the bottleneck. If you are downloading from anything but a close by, fast server or a very lightly loaded one, you may find that the source server won't deliver bits any faster than the wireless network can process them.

Wireless G with a strong signal, can keep up with 4 or 5 megabytes per second which is more than I get from most web sites.
