Is Antivirus needed for Linux?

I'm now playing around with Ubuntu and Fedora under Parallels 7 on my Mac. I have VirusBarrier for my Mac, do I need a Linux antivirus program or will my Mac antivirus be enough?

I and was advised that for running Windows with Parallels I should have an antivirus running in Windows because the Mac antivirus would not catch Windows viruses running in the emulation. I don't know if that is 100% correct or not.

Will a Mac antivirus protect against Unix/Linux viruses too? If I need a Linux antivirus what is recommended? There is no Parallels menu to install an antivirus as there is for the Windows emulation.

Hi,

Linux OS no need any antivirus. If you are using mail server then you can use Clmav for you incoming and outgoing mail virus checking. If you don't use this service then not needed antivirus.

Antivirus- a must!

It is always better to have an antivirus software in your system in order to make sure that your system does not get infected with any sort of virus. You can use Avast or Immunet to solve the purpose.
