Is spare RAM enough?

I typically have around 800 MB spare RAM once I have booted Parallels with Windows 10 and the (only) app I use in Windows.
(Total RAM on the Mac is 8 GB)

Is that enough spare?

I've allocated 2 GB to the VM. All seems to be working fine, but the reason I ask is that I'm soon upgrading to a new Mac and am wondering whether I should go to 16 GB of RAM (added expense...).

Hello @willmow , yes you can go with the 16GB RAM and then you can increase the amount of RAM http://kb.parallels.com/113649 assigned to Windows virtual machine for optimal performance.
