    Hi,

I realized too late that my VM still "thinks" I would have an IDE HDD, although I have a SATA3 drive. I tried configuring to SATA3 in the settings now, but then Windows7 doesn't boot up anymore. I guess that means I would have to reinstall windows from scratch to when changing the HDD settings of my VM.

So: is it worth it? Will a SATA setting improve speed? I mean, the VM "emulates" the windows formatted HDD anyway, therefore I'm not sure how much this matters.

What is the impact if I continue to run my VM with an IDE HDD setting, although I have a SATA3 sdd drive?

    Hi JakobV!
You do not need to reinstall windows, just read this
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976

This is virtual interfaces (IDE, SATA) and they do not depend from your
SATA3 interface. But actually, in case of running VM with virtual SATA
interface your Windows will able to detect your SSD drive,
in case of VM files are located in that physical hdd.
