keyboard unresponsive, unable to type password to logon virtual windows machine

help!!
running macbook pro OSX El capitan 10.11.2, Parallels desktop 11 for Mac, version 11.1.2
After updating to this version, I am unable to start a Virtual Windows XP machine. I can get to the logon screen but cannot type in the password. The keyboard is unresponsive. There was also a failed Parallels tools update and I think the keyboard drivers are corrupted. I can get to safe mode and logon as Administrator without a password, but how can I re-install the keyboard drivers. Parallels tools update fails every time.
 
Hi there, I'm not sure at all that this is a case, but you may try this one in safe mode: http://kb.parallels.com/en/123269
note: when following in safe mode check all "ControlSet" branches (ControlSet001, ControlSet002, etc.)

device manager driver error screenshots will also be useful
