Latest Parallels Tools update breaks 3D acceleration in Linux Mint 13

I updated to the latest version of Parallels Tools and now 3D acceleration is not working, despite it being selected in the OS settings. The desktop will no longer run Cinnamon as a result.

How does one revert to an older version of the tools? Surely there must be some way but I can't find it.
 
Fortunately, I got a backup copy of my Mint VM from before the Parallels Tools upgrade off of Crashplan.

It seems like they break something new with every new release. Don't upgrade your tools if you like having a functional installation of Linux Mint capable of running Cinnamon.
