leopard 10.5.2/build 5584 parallel tools will not install

Hello Zlbdad,

Please try the following:

Create a backup of "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield" folder, remove the folder and install Parallels Tools.

Restore the folder from backup if you encounter any problems after that.

your suggestion

I am not sure this is possible since XP crashes when I launch it under parallels and I am locked out altogether.
 
Could you please let me know what error message you get when XP crashes?
In your first post you wrote everything was fine until you tried to install Parallels Tools...

What's your Mac and VM RAM?

My apologies for not being clear. Parallels is installed. It seems to be when Parallel TOOLS begins to install that it hangs, but either the tools installation is taking place without me invoking it or XP is hanging up regardless. I had been using 5160 with 10.4.11 with no trouble previously.

10. Anything you have tried to get things working
Uninstalled, restarted, fixed permissions, fixed permissions, restarted, reinstalled

11. Anything specific about your set-up you think we should know
Win XP sp2

12. If you are crashing, upload some crash logs

no crash log available. I do have to force quit to end the program

13. If you are getting an error message type it in and then attach a screenshot.
XP just freezes as Parallels tools install begins. no messages.

14. If you are having issues with a specific component (i.e. mouse, keyboard, monitor) tell us what it is.
 
Hello Zlbdad,

The Windows problems might have started after a force quit. Some system settings could have been damaged on your virtual hard drive. Please repair Windows installation.

Next time you have Parallels Tools installation freezing please click Parallels Desktop menu bar -> Actions -> Cancel Parallels Tools Installation. In the box asking you if you want to cancel, click NO. Installation will finish promptly then.

I will try that again later today, thanks. I have tried it before....when I try to cancel the installation I am not given the option to confirm cancellation. It is simply frozen.
 
Zlbdad, I am sorry, my previous instructions were not correct: you should click Cancel on the Progress bar you see when Parallels Tools are installing.

Sorry about the above. I have Zibdad's problem. Windows XP, Mac 10.5, Build 5584, 2 gb ram, tons of disk space. I removed Installshield per Xenos' advice; made no difference. The blue screen of death flips out of sight so fast I can't read it.
BTW: After I transported the old Dell drive to Mac/Parallels a few days ago, it commenced a long program that was headed SYSTEM32 (+?).cmd, which began laying down a dot every 10 seconds or so in long lines. After maybe three hours and 100+ lines of dots it seemed to be only half through (per the pull-rod on the right) and intending to minimize I closed it. Should I re-run it? If so, where to find the app?
Also, I can't get a Windows screen more than maybe 5x7". Changing the resolution (in various stages)to 1000x750 didn't seem to change the screen one iota

Problem changed/fixed?

Well I am not sure if the problem is permanently resolved but what just happened is:

XP crashed and refused to boot into anything BUT safe mode....so I booted into safe mode and installed Parallel Tools in Safe mode successfully!!!??!! The restarted the machine and now it appears to be working properly. I won't breathe easily until a few restarts go by with no further trouble but......

Don Noel, the issue seems to be caused by drivers conflict between Parallels and that SYSTEM32 (+?).cmd. Please boot in Safe Mode and remove all the programs installed from the Dell drive.
Restart Windows and install Parallels Tools after that.

Thank you. To be clear, I did not have to remove any programs for this to work. Anyway, things are fine for the moment!

No safe mode?

I tried after Zibdab's post, but couldn't even get into safe mode. Three tries: Holding down F8, tapping it, holding it mashed down hard. Still booted fully. Is there some other way to get into safe mode? Or to abort a boot so Windows will sense the failed boot and open automatically in safe mode?
 
Xenos, assuming I can get into safe mode, do you mean uninstalling all the programs (like Quicken, Acrobat) etc that I transported, or the Windows programs such as System32?

Don Noel, on MacBook you should press Fn8 repeatedly to boot into Safe Mode.
Or there is another way: press red square Stop button on the right panel of VM window when Windows is starting up (you see Windows logo).
I meant uninstalling Windows programs such as System32.

Can someone help me please. I am trying to install windows 7 on my Mac OSX 10.6.3. It is saying pro tools is not installed. When i try to install it nothing happens. I go to my library to find the .iso file but i dont see any folder named parallels in my library. What should i do?
