Linux sound problem since Parallels 4.0 upgrade

Hi,

With Parallels 3.0 I was running openSUSE Linux 10.3 w/o problems.
Since I upgraded to Parallels 4.0 the sound doesn't work anymore in my Linux VM.

In the settings I couldn't spot a difference. Any ideas appreciated !!

Haven't a clue, but it doesn't work in Fedora 10 either.

I can't help, but wanted to add that sound doesn't work correctly in Fedora 10 or 11 either. There is sound of a sort ... it's choppy/jerky and thus unusable.

Since we don't seem to be getting any feedback from this forum, I suppose I should open a problem report about this and the fact that I can't get Parallels Tools to install in Fedora 11. <sigh>

I did not use image migration. I installed both Fedora 10 and Fedora 11 directly from the install DVD image ISOs. The sound does not appear to work properly in either virtual machine.

The sound is chopped up and unusable in both. It resembles what I've heard in Windows when another process is hogging all the CPU. A few disconnected bursts of sound, but nothing coherent and recognizable.

I'm glad you were able to get it to work. But based on my experience I think something is still wrong, at least with a Fedora install.
 
Not good in SuSE either

Sound is the only problem I have in openSuSE.. Installed from a fresh image. Everything else works beautifully. I tried removing and reinstalling Parallels Tools, but no luck.. Very choppy sound. Any ideas?
 
Experiencing Same Sound Problem

Parallels 4.0 with fresh install of Fedora Core 10, sound is choppy and useless.

Can anyone confirm FC10 sound working with previous versions of Parallels?
 
Change from ALSA to OSS

I found a solution, at least for FC10. I just had to switch to the OSS interface instead of the ALSA interface (in your Preference > Hardware > Sound). There are several choices that you can test, if you here a plain "beeeep" then it means that it works fine.

I hope that Parallels will have better support of ALSA in the future since it is planed to replace OSS in the Linux kernel.
