Mac desktop <-> Linux VM file sharing, a work around

This may be obvious to the "veterans" here, but I've been trying to figure out how to share files between the Mac host and a Linux VM. Parallels seems to be lacking some basic support for Linux VM (shared folders, clipboards). I found that by copying files to a USB thumb drive then alternately unmounting and mounting I can get the files from one OS to the other without too much trouble. Sure beats emailing them between the two!

Still trying to decide of it's worth the $79 price given the rudamentary Linux guest support.

Why not just use Samba and create shares?* All of my Linux installs (Ubuntu, Freespire & SUSE) support samba shares. I just browse the local network and copy files back & forth.
Pretty simple...

I will try that too I reckon. I've never used Samba and have not a clue where to start. :-/

I'll peruse the forums.
 
Ok, I found a post at http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=4491&highlight=samba that seems to give pretty cler directions. I've followed them, I think, and I get a new folder showing up on my Ubuntu desktop. It's empty. I am not sure what the file is on the Mac OS. Is there a particular path I need to enter?

Update: I started over, this time I got a password prompt and all my files showed up. This is cool. I think this just my save the day! :-)

Glad to hear it. Konqueur (sp?) the default KDE file browser should be able to browse network shares (which are really Samba shares) by default. This is typically much easier that trying to use a UB drive and all that. Quicker too.
