I would love to able to install an older version. . .

however, all installation programs report that they have nothing to install and stop. Niiiice.

I wish I had read this board first!

I just updated to 4560 on my 10.4.10 Intel Mini and Parallels KPs when pressing the green arrow to start the VM. Below is the report.

Is there a way to drop back to a previous version? Where would I download it?

Obviously this is a major issue and I'm surprised (an angered) that there has been zero response from Parallels.

I tried calling Parallels but the wait queue was about 30 minutes.

I'm dead in the water. I use Parallels to help run my (health/annuity/life insurance business... www.insurancesolutions123.com ).

So far not a word from anyone at Parallels about this. Nothing. Do they even know?

I tried turning off the "share applications with Mac" on the config screen as suggested elsewhere, but still got a total kernel panic freeze.

Is there an easy way to drop back to a previous build? Where would I find it if there is?

This is the last time I ever 'rely' on a small software company for anything that is even close to mission-critical. I paid $80 for the product, and no one answers the phone for half an hour!

I hear there is a big company called VMWARE that is coming into the Mac virtualization market? After this 4560 update mess, they can't get here fast enough for me!

Do I have to uninstall anything first? What? How? Or can I just run the dmg installer and let it fly!

You may be saving my life (and maybe my job!) here!

    Thanks,

    Al

    I sent the following to info@parallels.com AND I sent it as a fax to +1 (425) 282-6444

    Dear Parallels:

    See the forum thread http://forum.parallels.com/thread14530.html

AND GIVE US A FIX... or at least acknowledge the problem.

We all paid good money for Parallels. Your customer support needs improvement. If VMWare comes into this market, with their good customer support, you are going to go out of business quickly.

You don't have to fix this right away (but it would be nice) but you need to show your customers that you understand the situation.

    Thanks,

    Al

    al3,

You could try setting up a new Mac admin type user and install the 4128 version from there; the idea being that a new user has a clean start; and, any problems will be left behind. I have not tried this; I am out of town; I have other Windows options for now. One thing that I am glad I did was back up critical data files from the VM outside the VM in the Mac file system. Now I have those files and can run my Windows apps on another machine.

Thanks for your help, but what is needed is for Parallels to step up to the plate and fix this. I wrote a PM to one of the Parallels team members I saw who posted on this board. I told him that if they don't do some kind of communication to the user community in 24 hours that I'm going to just take my losses, junk Parallels and move to the beta VMWare Fusion.

They have a Parallels "converter" which looks pretty involved but people say it works. However you have to have 300MB of NTFS in your VM. How do you know if when you installed XP that is is NTFS or FAT?

I don't want to leave Parallels. I like small companies... but I need to run my business... and believe me if I ran my insurance agency as badly as Parallels seems to be running their software biz of late, I'd be buried by all the good agents out (t)here.

    Just let it spin!

I couldn't agree more. This is just plain awful and it is the second time that I have updated a Parallels version and had a serious error where I was unable to use my VM. Parallels just spins as if it's booting up but never does. Well, actually when posting this, I let Parallels just spin for 3-5 minutes and , it finally boots up to Windows. Maybe we just need to let it spin?

    Hello!

We managed to reproduce this crash in our testing lab and fixed the cause of it. We are going to issue a special build with this fix soon.

Updated today to 3.0 (4560) On first start of my VM i was informed it will update the HD files (why? Will it still be compatible with my Paralles for Windows?). It then FROZE my Mac with that Panic Screen.

Restarting Mac, it causes the Panic Screen immediately after clicking the Green Arrow to start the VM.

I tried disabling all options, reducing memory, etc. to no avail.

    Mac Mini Core Duo 1.66 2GB 10.4.10

    HELP!!!

When can we expect this fix? There are people here who have paid good money for the product, it worked fine until YOU folks broke it with the latest update. Those people... YOUR CUSTOMERS can't use the product... and those who rely on it for business (as I do) are really being hurt... to the point we we are looking to have to buy a PC/Windows.

You folks "sold" people on the concept (dream?) that we could have the best of both worlds... Mac and Windows... and up until now it was true. But YOU FOLKS have dropped the ball here, not us.

I really urge you to put top priority on this issue. Either get it done, or show us how we can install an earlier version. DO SOMETHING! Get out in front of this as you are getting some very negative publicity in the Mac and Windows community. I've written this up on MacInTouch http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/virtualization/index.html#25jul2007 and have sent info to MacFixIT.

How you respond to this is going to 'make' you or 'break' you. You have a large and well-financed and well-known competitor coming into a market you've had all by yourself. People have memories and if you want to continue in business and be successful, you need to make sure those memories are good ones! Otherwise when Fusion comes out, people will abandon your platform in droves.

I wish you success, but from what I've seen from you this week, on this issue, I'm not too optimistic.

I just tried the quick fix of reloading build 4128. That brought up a different problem.

    Now I get this message"

Virtual machine cannot be started because of the following problem:

Parallels Desktop is unable to access the virtual hard disk image file /Users/Lou/Library/Parallels/winxp.1/winxp.1.hdd. The file is missing, corrupted, or used by other application. ".

I am thouroughly disgusted with this product.

Well think of it this way. It didn't kernel panic and bring down your whole machine! Maybe you need to un-install 4560 before you install 4128? You'd think that maybe the Parallels people would be on top of this?
