Mac OS X super slow and unresponsive after installation (unusable)

After installing parallels and windows XP, my computer has died... simple clicks take 5 mins minimum to load and once i reboot my MB, it gets stuck on the start up screen forcing me to reboot with my OS CD..

shall i reinstall?

anyone encountered these problems other than me??

Nearly. My MBP is now very slow and just seems to hang for 30 seconds or so every few minutes, but I don't have to boot from the CD. I have doubled my RAM (now 8GB) & reinstalled OSX & Parallels but no real change.
