Make Firefox open as default browser

Firefox is set as my default browser in XP, (and both Firefox and IE acknowledge this when I click on "Check Now"), but when I click on a link, it's IE that opens to handle it, even though Firefox is running. How can I force Firefox to respond to links instead of IE?

Everything described in that link had already been done.

I finally cured the problem by reinstalling Parallels Tools.
