I found a recommendation somewhere talking about a number of odd files which seem to reside in the root folder, which have the .ff something ending. It said to remove Fast Find from startup, and turn it off in control panel - significantly improves system performance. You can then delete those files if you want.
I've never used Fast Find in the past, so won't miss it.
