Media Player DRM problem: can't aquire licenses

Hi,
I'm using Parallels desktop 3036 w/WinXP Pro.
My library has downloadable e-books and dvds that are protected with some kind of Media Player DRM which is handled by Overdrive Media Console (http://www.overdrive.com/MediaConsole/download.asp)

I cannot get media player to download the license necessary to view the e-book, e-dvds. A regular pc on the same network with same OS and same updates downloads the DRM permissions with no problem.

I'm working with overdrive's tech support, but they don't seem to have any ideas.

Anyone have any experience or suggestions using Media Player DRM and/or Overdrive Media Console to view DRM protected material with Parallels Desktop?

DRM/Overdrive Media Problem Solved

Hi Jim,

I ran into the same problem with Parallels Desktop 2.5 Build 3188.0. I'm running Windows XP Home on my iMac 20" Core Duo. I was attempting to upgrade the DRM license in Windows Media Player 11, and I ran into the same kinds of errors you described. I had tried to do the upgrade right after migrating my XP Virtual Machine from Virtual PC 7 to Parallels. I had installed WMP 11 under Virtual PC before I bought my Intel iMac.

I deleted the contents of the DRM folder (restart XP immediately), and then I downloaded and reinstalled WMP 11 (restart XP again). I also made sure (with XP off in Parallels VM settings) that my internet connection was set up properly. It had defaulted to a subnet arrangement. I reset it to use my Airport connection to make sure the network settings would work out properly using my router's automatic functions.

After a restart of Windows XP, I tried the upgrade process again, and it worked.

By the way, if like me you were wanting to transfer your audio materials over to a player via ActiveSync (I use a Dell Axim x51V, and I sync everything else with Missing Sync), then don't forget to set your USB settings to autoconnect. It does not set that way by default. You have to enable it in the VM settings with XP off. (I know this is kind of a sketchy explanation, but you should be able to figure this out if you plink around a little.)
