Migration and upgrade from 1.0 to 4.0?

I need to upgrade from Parallels Desktop for Mac 1.0 to 4.0. (I know, I know...)
I purchased 4.0. I found instructions about converting old disk images from version 3 and parallels image tool can convert from 2.5 images.

I did not find anything about what is required to go from 1.0 to 4.0. What are the steps to get from 1.0 to 4.0, maybe with a stop at 2.5 along the way?

Backup Virtual machine
Uninstall Parallels Desktop 1
Install Parallels Desktop 4
Create new Virtual machine using existing disk, point to disk from version 1
